Course Descriptions:
MB 100 - Medical Office Administration
Students will learn the importance of legal issues, the names and usage of basic reference
books, the usage of the PDR, how and when to properly complete the HCFA 1500 billing
form, the principles and eligibility guidelines for Medicare, how to bill for medical services,
billing procedures for CHAMPUS, Worker's Compensation and coordination of benefits.


MB 200 - Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology
To acquaint students with insurance terminology, and the meaning and pronunciation of
medical terms, including prefixes, root words and suffixes. The student will also learn
provider abbreviations and appropriateness of services rendered as well as the names,
pronunciation and locations of all principal parts of the body systems.


MB 300 - Medical Billing Forms Practical application
Students will learn to use the ICD-9 and CPT, as well as familiarize themselves with different
types of medical reports and how to use these reports to bill for procedures rendered. They
will also learn the use and the proper completion of the UB-92 hospital billing form.


MB 400 - Health Claims Examining-Theory
The students will understand the insurance industry, and the responsibilities of departments
within an insurance company in general and of claims examiners and medical billers in
particular. The students will learn to interpret insurance contracts and to understand legal
ramifications of specific actions. Students will learn to calculate UCR and to process health
claims, including those for physicians services.


MB 410 - Health Claims Examining - Practical Application
Students will learn to process health claims, and including those for diagnostic charges,
ambulance charges, and durable medical equipment charges. In addition, students will learn
common lab tests and which tests are usually ordered for certain diagnoses.


HC 100 - Clinical Simulation (Simulated Work Experience)
Students will gain practical knowledge of a on-line medical billing and claims processing
systems and will actually be involved in a simulated work program.


Bus. 410 - Word Processing
Instruction will be given in word processing concepts, hands-on training, general formatting
and editing using MicroSoft Word.


Bus. 310 - Keyboarding I
Instruction on basic keyboarding.


Bus. 320 - Keyboarding II
Fundamentals of touch keyboarding and speed drills. (Prerequisite: Keyboarding I)


Bus. 250 - Ten-Key By Touch
Use of electronic calculators, adding machines and computer ten key pads.


Bus. 620 - Job Skills
Office hierarchy; appropriate demeanor; job search techniques; preparing a resume.

Examiner
