| Course Description: HVAC 100-A HVAC Trade Orientation Provides students with introductory information regarding the overall trades training program and defines the occupational job title with state-approved job descriptors, tasks, and duties associated with the HVAC Installer. Prerequisite: None HVAC 100-B Human Relations Introduces students to development of customer skills and positive communication techniques. Emphasis is on providing students with effective skills for developing professional interpersonal relationships and service attitudes. Prerequisite: None HVAC 101 - Safety and First Aid Examines OSHA regulations, general industry standards, and state safety and health regulations for construction. Selected interpretation of the standards pertaining to HVAC/R is accessed, overviewed, discussed, and compiled into student resource materials. Prerequisite: None HVAC 102 - Construction Math Provides students with the ability to thoroughly understand formulas, equations, areas, volume and other and other algebra and geometry math fundamentals. Prerequisite: Demonstrated proficiency in basic math functions by test score or completion of Mathematics I (Bus. 210). HVAC 103 - HVAC Tools, Materials, and Supplies: Trains students in the types of tools, materials, and supplies used in performing HVAC/R installation and start-up operations. Students will build and equip their own personal tool kits with commonly used HVAC tools. Prerequisite: None HVAC 104 - HVAC Sheet Metal Installation Provides students with a practical knowledge of how to install or change existing ductwork for an efficient basic air distribution system. This course will focus on proper installation techniques of pre-fabricated sheet metal related materials used in residential duct installation. Prerequisite: HVAC 103 - Tools HVAC 105 - HVAC National and Local Codes Provides students with a thorough knowledge of the national and local codes associated with the installation of residential HVAC equipment while in the employment or under contract of a licensed HVAC contractor. Prerequisite: None HVAC 106 - HVAC Fundamentals Introduces students to the fundamentals of HVAC by learning history and development of early refrigeration and air-conditioning. Enables students to begin understanding refrigeration theory by learning its underlying principles of heat, energy, temperatures and pressures, and what creates a comfort zone. Prerequisite: None HVAC 107 - HVAC Systems Provides entry-level HVAC installation students with a common understanding of the types of HVAC residential systems and the selection process for determining an enclosed environment's heating/cooling needs. Prerequisite: Sections I and II and HVAC 106 HVAC 108 - HVAC Theory Provides students with an increasing understanding of HVAC theory in relationship to the five thermal laws of refrigeration and the operation of the refrigerating cycle. Prerequisite: Sections I and II, HVAC 107 HVAC 109 - HVAC Electrical Teaches students the fundamentals of electrical theory and installation techniques for wiring and connecting circuitry for residential HVAC systems. It is not the focus of this course to teach circuit design, but to describe various electrical components and wiring methods needed to field-wire HVAC equipment and meet national and local codes. Prerequisite: Sections I and II HVAC 108 HVAC 110 - HVAC Brazing and Soldering Provides students with practical skill sets in brazing and soldering techniques to safely join metals and piping materials with accuracy and efficiency. Prerequisite: Sections I and II HVAC 109 HVAC 111 - HVAC Refrigerants and Charging Techniques Provides students with a thorough knowledge of modern refrigerants, their use, and application in HVAC installation projects. This course will also expand the student's understanding of refrigerant usage and handling techniques to include proper refrigerant leveling methods used in a residential HVAC system after installation of parts to ensure proper system start-up and efficient refrigerant flow through the system. Prerequisite: Sections I and II, HVAC 110 HVAC 112 - Heating Fundamentals Provides students with a complete review of heat transfer principles and an introduction to heating system configuration, design, and operation. This course will also prepare students for Unit Installation Labs, where students will complete full package unit installations. Prerequisite: Sections I and II HVAC 111 HVAC 113 - HVAC Schematics Teaches students the ability to read and understand schematics and drawings. Several types of drawings and diagrams will be examined during this course: including Block, Pictorial, One-line, Wiring, Terminal, and Schematic. Individual component symbols will be presented along with an explanation of their function and purpose in the circuit. To facilitate learning and enable students to relate diagrams to actual equipment, students will see pictorial examples or photos of the components along with the description. Prerequisite: Sections I and II HVAC 112 HVAC 114 - HVAC Residential Install Labs Provides students with a real-time job site experience in installation of different types of residential HVAC equipment. The material is delivered in a common sense step-by-step procedural process to identify where students fail to remember installation instructions and correct flaws in the install process. Prerequisite: Sections I, II and III HVAC 115 - EPA Refrigerant Certification Seminar Prepares installers for the certification test and contains all the information a student requires to successfully complete the Section 608 Refrigerant Certification Test. Prerequisite: Sections I, II, III, and HVAC 114 or six-months on-the-job experience. HVAC 116 - Job Search Workshop Assists students with resume writing and interview techniques. Prerequisite: Section I, II, and III. |
